Prayer: Father, help me today to look at sin from a new perspective, Yours. Amen.
Reading: Genesis 20 key: vs. 6
6 Then God said to him in a dream, “Yes, I myself knew that you did this with integrity of your heart, so I, yes I Myself prevented you from sinning against Me. That is why I did not allow you to touch her.
Attention: How differently would we look at adultery and affairs, if we had a dream from Adonai, which told us in no uncertain terms that if we followed through with our plans, “you will surely die—you and all who are with you.”
King David had an affair and the resulting pregnancy culminated in the birth of a child who died. David eventually repented and in one of the Psalms which he wrote, he utters these words, “Against You, You only, have I sinned, and done what is evil in Your sight” (Psalms 51:6a).
Are we aware that our sin is against Adonai? King Abimelech knew it, because Adonai spoke directly to him through a dream. Would it take a dream direct from Adonai to stop you from sinning? Or will the dream of a king be enough to serve notice to you? David was served notice by a priest who told him a story about a lamb which was taken from a poor man. David’s own words were, “the man who did this deserves to die!” Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man!” (2 Samuel 12: 7a).
Why did David say this “man deserves to die?” Because the man had stolen something which did not belong to him. How grievous to discover, the man was him.
Are you involved in an affair? Are you flirting with the idea of having an affair? It may seem innocent enough but consider the long-term effects. Consider how many people are involved or effected. It is not just two people. You are grieving two families, friends, and Adonai. No matter how you slice it, God knows. We cannot hide even our secret sin from God.
Action: I acknowledge that when I sin, it is an act of rebellion against Adonai.
Yield: I give my life; heart, mind and soul to Adonai.
Engage: I engage with Adonai in a lifestyle which pleases Him.
Relationship: I am one with God!
Prayer: Father, may I like David, acknowledge that my sin is rebellion against You. I love You and do not want to do anything which is against You. Amen.
Memory Verse: Psalm 51:6
6 Against You, You only, have I sinned,
and done what is evil in Your sight,
so that You are just when You speak,
and blameless when You judge.
