Prayer: Father, I love how the Psalms remind me of songs which are written many times directly from scripture. Thank You for my rich music heritage which is scripture-rich! In Jesus’ name, amen.
Read: Psalm 63 key: vs. 4-5
4 Since Your lovingkindness is better than life,
my lips will praise You.
5 So I will bless You as long as I live.
In Your name I lift up my hands.
Attention: If you haven’t been in the community of faith for very long, what I declare to be Ekklesia, you have much to experience in the music of worship. When I was a youth, the Jesus movement was happening in Southern California. Many of the songs which came out of that movement, were called scripture songs and the lyrics were usually, word for word.
The utilization of scripture put to music was not new. The classical writers used scripture to put doctrinal or theological concepts to music. They had a distinctive style in that they might repeat the theological theme numerous times and throughout the various voicings in the choir. Scripture songs may have a chorus which repeated but was word for word with scripture, particularly the psalms. These songs were considered more personal and from the heart.
David’s words were from the heart. He is confirming with God, “You are my God.” Perhaps it is time to confirm your heart with God. When is the last time He heard you say, “You are my God!” Make today a day of expressing your heart to God!
Action: I will express my heart to God today!
Yield: I am yielded when I can express my heart to God.
Engaged: I am engaged when I give all my heart to Adonai.
Relationship: I am in full relationship with God when I express my heart to Him.
Prayer: Father, I want to praise You with all my being. With all my heart, mind, and soul, I give You praise. May my mouth and lips praise You, with my arms lifted high! Praise You Jesus! Be glorified! Amen.
Memory Verse: Psalm 103:1-2
1 Bless Adonai, O my soul,
and all that is within me, bless His holy Name.
2 Bless Adonai, O my soul,
and forget not all His benefits:
