Prayer: Father, You have a plan which will be fulfilled, as You are Supreme and above all nations and all gods. I declare it today! You are Supreme! Amen.
Reading: Jeremiah 50 key: vs. 1-3 & 45-46 “The word that Adonai spoke about Babylon, about the land of the Chaldeans, through Jeremiah the prophet: “Declare it among the nations and proclaim! Raise a banner, announce, hide nothing! Say: ‘Babylon will be captured, Bel put to shame, Merodach dismayed, her images disgraced, her idols shattered!’ For a nation comes up against her out of the land of the north —it will desolate her land. No one will dwell there— they have fled, gone, both man and beast.” And “Therefore hear the plan that Adonai has drawn up against Babylon, and His strategies that He designed against the land of the Chaldeans. Surely the least of the flock will be dragged away, Surely He will make their pasture desolate because of them. The earth will tremble at the noise of Babylon’s capture. The sound of their outcry will be heard among the nations.” TLV
Attention: Adonai save the last nation, Babylon, for the last declaration of His prophecy for Jeremiah to deliver. Babylon was the most destructive, razing the Temple in Jerusalem and hauling away all the sacred artifacts.
According to the Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary, so that we can draw a distinction between Babylon and Chaldea, their destruction comes from the Chaldean people who are a Northwesterly portion of Babylon, who later take over. “At first the Chaldeans lived in tribal settlements, rejecting the urban society of the Babylonians to the northwest—so-called after the leading city-state of the region, Babylon, to which the OT refers over 300 times. Babylon was once the capital city of the great King Hammurabi (ca.1763-1750 B.C.), remembered for the empire he created, and for the famous law code which bears his name. As time passed, the Chaldeans gradually acquired domination in Babylonia. In the process they also took on the title “Babylonian,” or more exactly, “Neo-Babylonians (pg. 276).”
Adonai declares He has a plan for the destruction of both the Babylonians and Chaldeans. A quick look at a contemporary map will render both non-existent. God’s plan fulfilled.
The study of Jeremiah has certainly concluded Adonai’s Eminence and Supremacy over all nations and all gods. What He declares, He fulfills. His Word is true. His declarations are everlasting.
