Supremacy of Adonai

Prayer: Father, You are high and lifted up. You are above all creatures, peoples, nations, and gods. You are above all. Amen.

Reading: Jeremiah 49 key: vs. 13-15 “For I have sworn by Myself” —it is a declaration of Adonai— “that Bozrah will become a horror, a disgrace, a waste and a curse. All its towns will be ruins forever.” I heard a message from Adonai. An ambassador is sent to the nations: ‘Gather together, come against her, and rise up for war!’ For see, I made you least among nations, despised among men.” TLV

Attention: One of the most important books I have ever read is Knowledge of the Holy, by A. W. Tozer. He explores biblically, the character of God. He claims that it is important for man to have a correct, accurate understanding of who God is. In his book he makes this statement, if we were “able to extract from any man a complete answer to the question, ‘What comes into your mind when you think about God?’ we might predict with certainty the spiritual future of that man.” For what a person thinks or visualizes of God, establishes their concept of God. In other words, if you have a small God, you have big problems. If you have a Big God, you (proportionally) have small problems.

Adonai has established through His prophetic declarations, His Supremacy over all nations and all their gods. In today’s key passage, Adonai declares, “I have sworn by Myself”, there is none higher!

If you review the previous writings (chapters) of Jeremiah, Adonai has addressed the judgement which is approaching Israel. Then, of the nations which He is using to bring His judgement, He pronounces the judgement upon those surrounding nations and their god; to Egypt and multiple gods (Ch. 46:25); to the Philistines and Dagon (Ch. 46); 1 Samuel 5:1-7), to Moab and Chemos (Ch. 48); to Ammon and Malcam (Ch. 49); and to the Babylonians and Bel (Ch. 50, Daniel 4).

Adonai is intolerant of all men, whether Hebrew or any other nation, worshipping another god. He has destroyed nations and their gods, never to be rebuilt again. Jericho, Sodom and Gomorrah, the Philistines, and Babylon are immediate examples. What God (Adonai) declares, will come to fulfillment. The first century maps which I referred to in the past couple journals, document the absence of their names.

May we continue to grow in understanding of who Adonai is, and was, and shall ever more be. He is Supreme in addition to many other characteristics.

Action: I choose to embrace the Supremacy of Adonai to all other gods.

Yield: I choose to submit to the Holy Spirit in power, demonstrating the Supremacy of God.

Engage: I choose to engage in expanding my knowledge of God.

Relationship: I choose to live in intimate, holy relationship with Adonai.

Prayer: Father, may we obtain an accurate understanding of who You are through Your written word. For You declare who You are. You are Truth and cannot lie. I choose to believe what You have declared about Yourself. Amen.

Memory Verse: Hebrews 6:15-18 “And so after waiting patiently, Abraham reached the promise. For people swear by someone greater; and the oath, as confirmation, is an end to all their disputing. In the same way God, determining to point out more clearly to the heirs of the promise the unchanging nature of His purpose, guaranteed it with an oath. So by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to take hold of the hope set before us.”
