My Heart is Moaning

Prayer: Father, may my heart become Your heart. May I grieve and lament for those for whom Messiah died. Your love extends to every person and nation. Amen.

Reading: Jeremiah 48 key: vs. 35-36 “Moreover I will make an end in Moab”—it is a declaration of Adonai— “of the one offering on the high place and the one burning incense to his gods.” “That is why my heart is moaning like funeral flutes for Moab, and my heart moans like flutes for the people of Kir-heres. Thus the wealth he made is lost.” TLV

Attention: During the time of the Judges through Jeremiah, Moab was located east of the Dead Sea and to the north, were neighbors with the tribe of Reuben. Historically, there were clashes and times of peace and interrelations. The Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary (HIBD) documents various Old Testament references which establish Israel and Moab’s relationship. “The story of Ruth illustrates peaceful relations, while the episode of Ehud and Eglon illustrates conflict (Judges 3:12-30). Saul is reported to have fought against the Moabites (1 Samuel 14:47). David a descendant of the Moabitess Ruth according to the biblical genealogies (Ruth 4:18-22), placed his parents under the protection of the king of Moab while he was on the run from Saul (1 Samue 22:3-4)Yet he is reported to have defeated the Moabites in battle later on and to have executed two-thirds of the Moabite prisoners by arbitrary selection (2 Samuel 8:2),. Moab was represented among Solomon’s wives, and the worship of Chemosh, the Moabite god, accommodated in Solmon’s Jerusalem (1 Kings 11:1-80).”

I quoted from the HIBD to establish the level of blending relationship between Israel and Moab added to the grief that Adonai experienced in declaring judgement upon Moab. He cares for the gentile nations. His love for the gentiles is being established in the Old Testament. His love for the gentiles is not just a New Testament construct. We see the inclusion of gentiles like Ruth in the genealogy of David and Messiah.

God’s love for us (gentiles) is undeniable. God’s love for all gentile nations is established in John 3:16.

Action: I choose to embrace God’s love for the people of all nations.

Yield: I choose to submit to the love of God for all peoples.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in loving all people of all nations.

Relationship: I choose to live in intimate relationship with Adonai.

Prayer: Father, Your love extends to all people. Amen.

Memory Verse: John 3:16 ““For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
