Run from, Run Towards?

Prayer: Father, I feel dry this morning. I pray for Your help in gleaning a new insight into today’s passage. Thank You for ordering my steps. Amen.

Reading: Psalm 61 key: vs. 2-3
Hear my cry, O God, listen to my prayer.
From the end of the earth I call to You when my heart is faint.
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Attention: Interesting that I felt “dry” this morning, David felt “faint.” As emotional beings, there will be days in which we don’t feel inspired. We feel low in energy or spirit. It is especially difficult when news of the passing of a loved one, a friend seems more frequent than usual. I wonder if it comes with aging.

In the midst to emotional lowness, who does David run too? He runs “to the Rock that is higher than I.” Most of us I fear, tend to run from God, David said, “lead me to the Rock.” Jonah fled from God, but he returned under compulsion. However it happens, God is waiting for us with open arms.

A few days ago in chapter 56, David proclaims, “This I know—that God is for me.” Sometimes we need to be reminded that God is for us and not against us. He is the best Father we can have. Can you recite the Messiah’s prayer which He modeled for us? Matthew 6: 9-13 is the location if you need. How does Jesus begin the prayer? “Our Father.” I hope you can call Him Father. I hope you will call Him Father.

Action: I call Adonai, God, my Father. I come to Him. I will not run from Him.

Yield: I surrender my will to God.

Engage: I am engaged when I give my will over to Him.

Relationship: Calling God my Father, declares relationship with Him.

Prayer: Father, I call You Father because I acknowledge You as my heavenly Father. You formed me in my mother’s womb. You knew me even when I was yet unformed. You knew me before the world was formed. You knew me and You know me. Amen.

Memory Verse: Psalm 61: 5
Let me dwell in Your tent forever.
Let me take refuge in the shelter of Your wings. Selah
