I Will Tell My Children

Prayer: Father, I have a responsibility to tell my children of You. If I do not tell them, who will? Help me to declare You and Your story to my children and my children’s children. Amen.

Reading: Psalm 78 key: vs. 2-4
I will open my mouth with a parable.
I will utter perplexing sayings from of old,
which we have heard and known,
and our fathers have told us.
We will not hide them from their children,
telling to the next generation the praises of Adonai
and His strength and the wonders He has done.

Attention: Do I have a responsibility to tell my children about God? The psalmist reveals to us today, that the Hebrew nation was “commanded… to teach their children… the Torah.” The question I ask you today is, “How will you know what to teach your children if you have not been taught?” I assert that unless you are or become a student of the Word of God, you will not be able. Additionally, how valuable would it be for your children and spouse to see your daily discipline in the Word? This is a lifestyle which is more caught than taught.

As a child, I recall seeing my dad go to work every day, pay the bills, demonstrate generosity with the produce of our garden and fruit trees, worship God, pray and give back obediently to God. He didn’t talk about it, he demonstrated it by his lifestyle, and he testified of God’s providence and provision.

Parents, in the absence of good biblical instruction for most of our children, both in the public schools and church, I encourage you to consider ways you can share and show your faith to your children and grandchildren. In future newsletters, I hope to share ways which will help you share your faith to your children and generations to come. Please start with adding journaling and establishing a daily time with God. They are watching and they will see the transformation in your life. Every journal is a documentation of your faith and walk with God for your children and generations to come.

Action: I choose to demonstrate and show my faith in God to my children beginning today. I will faithfully begin today to establish a daily lifestyle of time with God through the Choose Life Journal plan.

Yield: I yield control of my schedule and life to the Holy Spirit.

Engage: I engage with the Holy Spirit in making God the center of my life.

Relationship: I desire and purpose to have a fully engaged relationship with God through the Holy Spirit and the Bible.

Prayer: Father, in You, I have life. In You I find purpose and meaning. In You, I live and move and have my being. Amen.

Memory Verse: Psalm 78:6-7
so that the next generation might know,
even the children yet to be born:
they will arise and tell their children.
Then they will put their trust in God,
not forgetting the works of God,
but keeping His mitzvot.
